Logging On to EarthExplorer
There are two ways you can sign on to EarthExplorer.
- Registered user:
As a Registered user, you can use all of Earth Explorer's features,
including the ability to save your search criteria and results and to save specific parameters you wish to apply to orders. Address information provided during the registration process is used when you place an order, eliminating the need for you to enter this information during order processing. If you plan on using EarthExplorer frequently, you will probably want to register.
- Guest:
If you sign on as a guest, you will not be able to save your search criteria
or results. You will have access to all other features of Earth Explorer.
User Registration
How to Register:
To register you must be in the EarthExplorer login page. You can get to the login page from here by clicking on the Logout menu item at the top of the page. On the Logout page, click on "Return to EarthExplorer". Once you're in the login page, click on the US or Non-US icon. This passes you to a registration page where you will be asked to enter in your name and contact information, and a username and password of your choice. As soon as you've completed the registration process, you can use your user name and password to sign on as a registered user.
The User Name and Password prompts are case sensitive so please enter them exactly how you typed them when you registered.
As of October 11, 2007, registration will be required to order and download data through EarthExplorer.
The benefits of being a registered user include:
- Your user profile is saved—no need to enter your name and address every time you use this site. (This information will remain confidential.)
- You can set ordering defaults.
- You can set up standing requests.
-
You can save search results and search criteria.
- You can send the saved criteria and results to another registered user.
- You can track placed orders.
- Your registration also applies to the GloVis, PhotoFinder and CIDR tool Web sites.
